First and foremost, we’d like to wish you a very happy Christmas and New Year.
2011 has seen unprecedented success at Style, winning the prestigious AIS Gold Contractors award for the 4th year in succession and being accredited to UKAS standards for ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems, ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System and BS OHSAS 18001:2007 Occupational Health & Safety Management System.
We also launched another RIBA CPD course on Multi-functional space, and as sole UK distributors for Dorma, Skyfold and SWG we’ve seen specifications for our moveable partitioning walls soar as an ever-increasing number of architects recognise the benefits of our product range and service proposition.
“We have a reputation for delivering quality products to extremely satisfied clients, and offering a complete solution which involves us working closely with specifiers from design to installation,” said Julian Sargent, Style’s group managing director.
“We have also expanded our staff numbers this year, most recently with Louise Woods who joins our Northern office as an estimator. Louise’s appointment has enabled a redirection of staff resources to increase our CAD provision and pre sales technical support.
“And with a growing team of high calibre individuals we continue to strengthen the service, support and advice on offer to architects, specifers, contractors and end-user clients.
“In terms of products, the flexibility, simplicity of operation and aesthetic appeal offered by Dorma Variflex and Moveo continues to attract huge interest, and as the only fully automatic, vertically stacking wall in the market, Skyfold’s popularity is accelerating at a dramatic pace. Our range of folding room dividers also offers a versatile work space solution, and by offering such an expanse of high quality products we’re able to service every feasible requirement.”

At Style, we were so proud of our recent Skyfold installation at Melton Borough Council that we filmed it in action.
The short video clip shows the wall lowering smoothly from the ceiling cavity to the floor, demonstrating the significant benefits that this product offers.

“Through a turnkey solution, the wall glides effortlessly into position,” said Mike Fine, Style’s director for the Midlands. “This video captures how quick and easy it is to operate, discretely housed in storage pockets within the ceiling void.
“For any architects, specifiers or interior designers looking for something extra special, but also hugely practical, I would strong recommend this system.”
With a 51dB Rw rating, the acoustic performance also more than met the requirements of Melton Borough Council for this project, and with an extensive range or finishes Skyfold can be matched to any room design.

Incorporating moveable partitioning walls into a well thought out design makes a significant impact on energy costs by effectively reducing areas being heated unnecessarily.
As well as offering flexible space by sub-dividing rooms, many organisations, particularly educational and public sector bodies seeking sustainable solutions and reduced costs, are seeing the benefits of reduced heating bills by installing an operable wall which results in not having to heat large halls and conference areas when not in full use; all of which has an impact on both the public purse and the environment.
“We recently reported a sharp rise in demand from the educational sector in particular,” said Julian Sargent, Style’s Group Managing Director. “And we’ve also completed a number of installations in other public sector buildings too.
“I put this down to the fact that budgetary restrictions, and a growing desire for eco-efficiencies, is causing schools and colleges to look at how they can maximise their room usage, therefore rarely leaving rooms under-utilised, and also how they can save money by closing off areas that are not in use and therefore not having to heat or light them.”
As a 14001 Environmental accredited company, Style is the sole distributor for Dorma, Skyfold and SWG in the UK enabling it to offer an expansive range of extremely flexible solutions, from ceiling mounted vertically rising walls that allow complete use of floor space, through to glass walls and walls with a range of finishes that fit seamlessly into any room design.
“Conversations have moved towards efficiency gains of late,” continued Julian, “particularly as public sector bodies brace themselves for another hefty fuel bill this winter, which is why the advantages of sub-dividing space are growing in people’s minds.”

Stuart Hubball has joined Style as Sales Manager for the Midlands, further expanding the team as the business continues to enjoy record growth.
Well-known to architects, specifiers, contractors and end-user clients in the moveable partitioning walls arena, Stuart has worked in this sector for more than a decade and brings a wealth of experience.
“We’re delighted that Stuart has agreed to join us,” said Mike Fine, Style’s Director for the Midlands, “and he is a terrific addition to our very high quality team.
“The advice and support we offer our clients underpins our success, and Stuart has a very strong and broad understanding of our sector and its products, both from a technical and a solutions perspective. This is the perfect grounding when delivering moveable walls because it is vital to understand the detail of a project to be able to advise the right solution. Quality of advice is hugely important in creating long-term customer satisfaction.
“He also has very strong relationships across the industry and is very highly regarded, and I’m delighted that high quality industry professionals, such as Stuart, are choosing to join us at Style as our reputation continues to thrive.”
DORMA’s Moveo and Variflex moveable partitioning wall systems continue to be first choice with many architects, specifiers and contractors as Style sees the number of specifications continue to grow in 2011.
According to David Louden, Style’s Director for Scotland, both products offer such flexibility, simplicity of operation and aesthetic appeal that some architects look no further when seeking space re-configuration.
“The popularity of these products is phenomenal,” said David, “because thanks to their diverse range of applications, we are being specified in market sectors spanning education, corporate, hospitality and leisure, religious, healthcare and so many more.
“They also offer some unique features, and Moveo in particular provides benefits that cannot be replicated with any other product in the market making it truly innovative; one example being its ComforTronic automatic seals that are standard making it a superb semi-automatic partitioning wall.
“Both also look absolutely stunning when in situ, and our recent installation at the legal firm Maclay, Murray and Spens in Glasgow is an excellent example of the quality of finish that can be achieved in the corporate environment with Variflex. Yet when it comes to offering practical and stylish solutions on a grand scale, a project by our Midlands office at North Warwickshire and Hinckley College demonstrates how the same product can be applied to a room that couldn’t be more different.
For more information about Moveo or Variflex, we have online brochures (found in the Moveable walls section of the web site) which explain the benefits and applications in more detail, and for more information please contact your local Style office.

This is the second year running that Zaha Hadid Architects has won the RIBA Stirling Prize and Style is delighted to have been involved in this prestigious development.
“We were particularly proud of the part we played in this exciting project,” said Julian Sargent, Style’s Group Managing Director. “Our role was to provide a number of moveable partitioning wall solutions that gave the academy a huge amount of flexibility so that they could reconfigure space with ease, and we were delighted to be chosen as the most suitable provider for such a cutting edge development.”
As an award winning business itself, having won the esteemed AIS Contractors Gold Award for the last 4 years in succession, Julian believes that Style’s increasing number of specifications is down to a number of factors.
